Hamp Community Association welcomed Bridgwater MP Ashley Fox for a community meeting with residents to discuss issues affecting Hamp and the wider town.
Ashley Fox was welcomed and introduced by Jacqueline Pierce, Chair of the Hamp Community Association, before giving an update on some of the work he has been focused on across Bridgwater.
He spoke about securing funding for the rebuild of Haygrove School and the opportunities presented by the £20 million Pride in Place programme for Bridgwater South.
Ashley highlighted the potential for the funding to deliver real benefits for Hamp and stressed that decisions about how the money is spent should be led by the community. He also welcomed the appointment of local resident Sam Smith as Chair of the Pride in Place Board, saying he had confidence in him to help ensure local people are at the heart of the programme.
Residents then had the opportunity to put questions directly to their MP, with discussion covering antisocial behaviour in the town and ongoing problems with Royal Mail deliveries.
Ashley updated residents on the work he has been doing on these issues, including raising Royal Mail delivery failures in Parliament and directly with Royal Mail, and working with local police and partners to tackle antisocial behaviour.
Jacqueline Pierce, Chair of Hamp Community Association, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Ashley to Hamp and give residents the chance to put their questions directly to our MP.
It was a positive meeting, and we’re grateful to Ashley for listening to the concerns of our community and discussing the opportunities ahead for Hamp and wider Bridgwater.”
Ashley Fox MP said:
“It was great to meet residents in Hamp and hear directly about the issues that matter to them.
There are also some real opportunities ahead, particularly through the £20 million Pride in Place funding, and I want to make sure Hamp benefits.
I will continue working on the issues residents raised and stand up for the community in Hamp.”
