Bridgwater’s Somerset Levels and Moors Mens Shed recently welcomed Sir Ashley Fox, MP for Bridgwater, to showcase the valuable role it plays in the local community. The Men’s Shed, which provides a space for men to socialise, share skills, and work on creative projects, is now looking for a larger premises to expand its work—ideally at a peppercorn rent.
First established in 2015 in Burrowbridge, the Shed is now based in a canal-side location in Bridgwater. It offers a welcoming environment where members can engage in hands-on activities, learn new skills, and connect with others over a shared interest in woodworking, DIY, and creative projects. It also helps tackle social isolation by bringing people together in a friendly and supportive space.
During his visit, Ashley Fox met with members to hear how the Shed has positively impacted their lives. “It’s fantastic to see the sense of camaraderie and purpose that the Men’s Shed provides,” said Ashley Fox. “This is a brilliant initiative that brings people together, helps them develop skills, and contributes to the community. I hope they can secure a larger premises to continue their important work.”
Gerald Swayne from the Men’s Shed added: “We’re proud of what we’ve built here, but as our membership grows, we need a bigger space to keep providing opportunities for more people. Ideally, we are looking for a larger premises at a peppercorn rent. If anyone can help, we’d love to hear from them.”
