Ashley Fox MP has met with Chief Superintendent Mark Edgington, the new Somerset Commander for Avon and Somerset Police, at Bridgwater Police Centre to discuss the key policing issues being raised by residents across the constituency.
During the meeting, Ashley Fox reported back on a range of concerns he continues to hear from constituents, including the need for more visible policing in local communities, a desire for a robust and consistent policing presence in towns and villages, and ongoing worries about rural crime.
He raised residents’ concerns about how unlawful traveller incursions are dealt with across the constituency, and the impact these incidents can have on local communities, landowners, and businesses. He also raised ongoing concerns about anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater Town Centre and the negative impact this can have on the attractiveness of the Town.
The meeting followed Chief Superintendent Edgington’s recent appointment and the introduction of Avon and Somerset Police’s new geographically aligned structure, which aims to strengthen local leadership and neighbourhood policing.
Speaking after the meeting, Ashley Fox MP said, “Constituents regularly raise policing issues with me, and this meeting was an important opportunity to feedback those concerns directly. People want to see officers out in their communities, they want firm action where it is needed, and they want reassurance that both rural and urban areas are being properly supported.
“I was clear about the issues being raised with me by constituents and I will continue to make sure that the voices of local residents are heard and understood.”
Residents are encouraged to continue contacting Ashley Fox MP with their experiences and concerns so these can be fed into ongoing discussions with the police and other relevant authorities.
