THE Nationwide branch in Bridgwater has undergone a new refurbishment with the reopening marked by a visit from Ashley Fox MP.

The brand-new updated space includes new furniture for customers and a full refit in a warm colour palette to lend the branch a bright, welcoming feel.

Ashley Fox toured the branch to learn more about the importance of branches to the high street, including by supporting the local community.

Nationwide encourages its branch staff to raise money for charity, and as well as acting as a food bank collection point the Bridgwater branch has raised £449 over the past year for a range of charities including Action for Children and Dementia UK.

These charities are part of Fairer Futures, Nationwide’s social impact strategy, which was created to help those who have been dealt an unfair hand.

Nationwide works with four charity partners to tackle some of the biggest issues in society – youth homelessness (Centrepoint), family poverty (Action for Children), dementia (Dementia UK) and cancer research (The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity).

Support from local branches is invaluable in helping drive Fairer Futures forward for all. So far, 36,833 children and parents living in poverty received vital funding from Action for Children, and 29,173 people living with dementia have been supported by Dementia UK’s specialist nurses – including in local Nationwide branches.

Nationwide has promised that wherever it has a branch, it will still be there until at least 2028.

Laura Phillips, branch manager at Nationwide in Bridgwater, said: “We’re so happy to be reopening in our new upgraded space and it was an honour to welcome Ashley Fox MP into the branch.

"We’ve never looked better! Branches aren’t just face to face banking: we’re also a touchpoint for the community, raising money for our Fairer Futures charities and acting as a food bank collection point. Access to a branch is good for everyone, and we’re here to stay.”
