Bridgwater MP Ashley Fox has thrown his support behind this year’s Turn Bridgwater Pink campaign, which will return throughout October to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Ashley met with local volunteers behind the campaign ahead of its return next month and is encouraging businesses, community groups and residents across Bridgwater to get involved.
Turn Bridgwater Pink sees the town come together during October, with businesses decorating their premises, community groups organising fundraising activities and landmarks across Bridgwater turning pink in support of cancer research.
Last year’s campaign was a huge success, raising £17,334 for Cancer Research UK after businesses, charities, community organisations and residents across the town rallied behind the initiative.
Funds raised last year were divided between research into breast cancer, lung cancer, urological cancers, including prostate and testicular cancer, and general cancer research.
Ashley Fox MP said:
“Turn Bridgwater Pink is a brilliant example of our town coming together for an important cause.
It was great to meet some of the volunteers who put so much time and effort into making the campaign happen, and I’m delighted to support Turn Bridgwater Pink again this October.
“I hope businesses, community groups and residents across Bridgwater will get involved and help make this year’s campaign another great success.”
Last year’s campaign was organised by Bridgwater Friends of Cancer Research UK in partnership with the Bridgwater Town Team, with support from businesses, community groups and organisations from across the town.
Carol & Keith Fishlock from Bridgwater Friends of Cancer Research UK said:
“We were amazed and touched by the support we had. It’s great to see the local community come together to support a good cause.
The members of the Town Team on our committee were fantastic people to work with and together we achieved so much - not just raising money, but showing Bridgwater in its best light.
We would like to thank everyone who supported us and hope we can do it all again this year.”
Turn Bridgwater Pink will take place throughout October.
