I am meeting with the Policing Commander for Somerset to call for more robust action to deal with antisocial behaviour in Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge, and Willstock and Stockmoor.
Given the strength and consistency of concerns being raised locally, I am reiterating my strong support for the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Bridgwater town centre to provide clear powers to address street drinking and associated anti-social behaviour, and to send a firm signal that such conduct will not be tolerated.
I am also calling for greater visibility of policing in problem hotspots in Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge, and Willstock & Stockmoor. While I recognise the competing demands on police resources, visible patrols are essential both for deterrence and for rebuilding public confidence.
